When we recently visited Blanco Niño’s London office, we left feeling incredibly inspired by their story and passion for real, good food. Blanco Niño first opened its doors in Clonmel back in 2015 and has since grown into a brand stocked across Ireland, the UK, and Sweden, while staying true to its roots and values.
We caught up with CEO Phil Martin to ask him a few quick questions about how he manages energy, balance, and wellbeing whilst running a successful and growing business.
What does a typical day look like for you and how do you keep your energy up when things get busy?
No two days are ever quite the same, but I try to stick to small rituals wherever I am. Mornings are usually quiet-some writing, some movement, and time to get centred before the day starts. From there, it’s a mix of strategy sessions, product or brand discussions, customer meetings and checking in with teams across Ireland and the UK. When things get hectic, I’ve found that small resets, a change of scene or some movement go a long way - a sea swim if I’m able or a short walk between meetings. Those moments of fresh air or cold water clear the head far more effectively than another coffee.
What role does food or nutrition play in how you manage work and wellbeing?
A big one. How we eat has a direct impact on how we think and feel. I try to keep things simple- real, natural food, plenty of plants, and as little processed stuff as possible although eating well isn’t about rules for me; it’s about feeling good and being able to show up with energy and focus. I’m a big believer in the body’s ability to heal and restore itself when it’s given the right fuel. Holistic medicine, movement, and time outdoors all play their part. And when I need a bit of a boost, I’ll mix up what the team jokingly call my purple sludge (a blend of berries and a long list of various adaptogens). It’s not exactly a strawberry milkshake, but it does the trick. Ultimately, food and wellbeing aren’t separate from work they’re what make it possible to sustain the pace and still enjoy it.
What’s one small daily habit or mindset that helps you stay focused or feel your best?
Writing every morning. It’s a simple practice that’s become essential for me. I usually take a quote, or a question, explore it on paper for a few minutes and see what comes up for me. It helps me slow down, gain perspective, and carry a bit more clarity into whatever the day throws up. It’s amazing how a few lines written in the quiet of the morning can shape the tone for the whole day.
Finally, what's your fave Blanco Niño flavour!?
Creamy Jalapeño. It’s got just the right balance of heat and smoothness. Amazing on their own or with a dip!
A huge thanks to Phil for sharing his insights (and his favourite flavour!). We love seeing Irish brands leading the way with balance, creativity, and great taste. As a growing Irish brand ourselves, it inspires us to see what Blanco Niño have achieved, proof that passion, purpose, and great food really can go hand in hand.
